UPDATE: Phew! That’s better. Let me know what you think. I’ll be futzing around for a bit yet, but tips and ideas are welcome. Things should be cleaner and simpler and hopefully more intuitive by the time I am done.

I love the woody idea, and the dripping paint on the left looks great, as does the top-left banner. But, I don’t think the 3D effect really comes off. It was pretty hard for me to tell it was supposed to be a board until I scolled waaaaay down to see the knot at the bottom. without the bottom piece, it just looks like there’s a mottled stripe in the background to the left of the content area. Maybe you could make a wood frame with mitred corners all around the edge, like our lovely A. L. E. painting.

Thanks, Jon! I tweaked the images a bit, and I “mitred” the upper-left corner of the “board.” I think it helps a little.
And Aiden is looking good! Thanks for keeping your photo album so up-to-date.

Hey–I’m looking at the page on 11-16 at 12:16PM, and it looks a bit fooked. I’m on a PC running XP and Explorer 6.0.280….. if that helps you at all. No frame, no mitred corners, and the content and navigation is one over the other, not side by side… But I like the knot! and the splash page with our fair Presidents–the Pres’s are awesome, but somethings fooked with the layout there, too.
