Your host for the week will be ME!

Friday, April 9th, 2004

And finally, it was fun to host my almost-step-brother while he looks at UW-Madison as an option for graduate school. Usually when we see each other, we are surrounded by the rest of our families and trying to partake of the traditions of one holiday or another. It was good to just hang out for once.

When we were growing up, there were a few outings that we had to get us all together aside from holidays, and I missed at least two of them because of conflict or illness. I always felt like my brothers knew those guys better than I did, so it felt good to get some one-on-one time in.

Frisbees A-Flying

Wednesday, April 7th, 2004

Finally! Frisbee season has begun again! I have been getting antsy to get out and run around for a while now, so it was great to go play some Ultimate last Wednesday. I’ll be back on the field tomorrow, just in time– I am almost not sore from that last game anymore. Although we didn’t win, it looks like it will be a great team to play with. We got some good players assembled for the team.

Film Fest Four

Sunday, April 4th, 2004

The film fest was great, yet again. I won’t go into it too much, but the highlights for me were Since Otar Left, The Story of the Weeping Camel, and Sumo: East and West. The first two were just great stories, told very well. The third was an interesting story as well, but the clincher for me was that Manny Yarborough was ther in person. At 6′ 8″ and over 700 lbs., he made the projected film look as if it were only life-sized. Dude’s as big as a house!

This is the fourth Wisconsin Film Festival I have attended, which also means it is the fourth year I worked on the website for it. Fortunately, we have a new member of the Active Media team at work who is doing a really great job. That and the fact that I was busting my ass on the new Jimmy John’s site meant that I didn’t have to do nearly as much on the WFF site this year as I have had to do in the past. I think that made the festival-going experience all the better, since I wasn’t so burnt out on the whole thing.
