Welcome Home, Little One!

Groggy little hedgehog.

The gargoyle was a birthday present from my brother.

“Don’t mess with me.”

She’s as big as my head!! (not really; she fits in the palm of one hand)
We only got her yesterday, and we had to leave her alone most of the night because we were stressing her out, so she doesn’t have an official name yet. But yes, we got a hedgehog!
Isn’t she cute? =)

Wow… what a cutie! I love that she’s about the same size as the gargoyle.
I haven’t met the gargoyle yet, either, so thanks for including it in the photos as well. Do you want suggestions for names? For the gargoyle or the hedgehog?

I’m an uncle!!! I have suggestions for my niece’s name:
Barbara
Bristilla (like Priscilla)
Thornella
Love you–Teddy

Yeah, I don’t mind some name suggestions. I kind of like “Thornelia,” Teddy. “Thornelia sedet sub gargoylis,” or some such pseudo-Latin.
Oh, and Teddy: She is just a hedgehog, so easy on the “uncle/niece” thing.
We have a list of names we’ve thought about, too:
Daisy
Diesel
Killer
Xena
Spike
Nothing’s settled yet. We’re also considering choosing a new name each week, since she won’t know the difference anyway.

I like Daisy for a name! I hope Cynthia and Mauricio will forgive me. D

How exciting. She is quite cute. How about naming her Mildred? I don’t think Joanna would ever let me name any of our children Mildred, so I guess you can have it.

She’s adorable. She does need one name, not a different one every week. Otherwise you might have to get her a therapist for her identity crisis. You know me; I love pun names–maybe like Barbarella–Barb for short–and she is short, after all:-)

Clearly, you have to name it so that you can register it on The International Hedgehog Registry, which is a part of the International Hedgehog Association (http://hedgehogclub.com/). I like Spike…you know she won’t get teased on the playground if she is named Spike. By the way, how do you hedgehog-proof a house? Is your furniture safe? Or am I getting cuonfused with woodchucks?

I think you are the victim of some misguidance. A new name each week is strictly ill-advised, mostly for you, but also for the little one. If you want to love it and cherish it, you aren’t going to change its name–it is a captive/captor relationship psychology thing to never refer to the captive by name, because you identify him or her as a person. Little Hedge-row is a person (pets are people, too), and you don’t want to remain distant from cute little Hedge-better, do you? You want to love her! So give the Hedg-atelerix (Latin name for the African variety) a break and name her. You can try the url below:

They don’t like Spike, though, so beware.
Love ya–Tbear

Do you really want to take advice from someone who thinks “Muffin” and “Cookie” are good names??!!
March 19th, 2004 at 3:26 pm
Karen–Come on. Granted, those names bite the big one, but they also have Shreddy, Winkle and Burrdock–which, incidentally, rhyme with Teddy, Tinkle and Turd-Lock (a condition which occurs after eating too much bread), all things I am familiar with. Um, Hello?

I think we’re going to call her Kitty because, well, we call her kitty. (We call everything kitty)

And Oh yeah, Teddy - TMI
