David Huyck is a bunch of monkeys.

I am a freelance designer, illustrator, and artist. I have over a decade of professional experience, including editorial illustration, editorial cartooning, spot illustration, character design, apparel and product design, poster design, website design and programming, typeface design, logomarks, animation and more, in addition to solo and group exhibitions of my non-commercial work. What it comes down to is that I just love to draw.

I am an incessant student of pop culture, nature, mass media, and independent creative minds. My work almost always incorporates a narrative element of some kind (at least in my head, if nowhere else.) This comes from my love of storytelling in all its forms, including novels and short stories as well as film, comics, and animation.

I recently completed my MFA at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. While in school I had two solo shows, participated in about a dozen group shows, curated a different group show, put some of my work into two books, had an interview in a cool magazine, drew a weekly political cartoon, helped bring national and international artists to campus and advertise their visits, and I did several freelance projects as well.

Before school I had work in the Communication Arts Illustration Annual, the HOW International Design Annual, and the Print Regional Design Annual, and I sold some work at the Whitney Museum in New York. Apparently, I like to stay busy.
